On June 12, 2019, Washington announced $13.3 million in awards to help transit agencies across the state purchase 50 electric transit buses. Transit agencies in King, Snohomish, Pierce, Clark, Benton and Spokane counties are set to receive up to $300,000 per bus to bring the upfront cost of the buses down to the level of diesel alternatives. King county will receive 23 of the buses covered in this round of funding.
This award expands on $9.4 million allocated for electric transit buses through a separate settlement between Volkswagen and Washington State announced in December 2018. This new announcement brings the total VW Settlement funding for electric buses to roughly $70 million nationwide.
